CAYSL Scheduling FAQs
How does the scheduling process work?
Clubs are given a deadline, usually about two months prior to the start of the season, to turn in intent to play forms. These forms include various bits of information including age, gender, bye dates, home fields and requested brackets (i.e. A, B, C). A master list is then generated showing all of the teams entered along with their pertinent information. This list is sent to each club for review to make sure that there were no mistakes in data entry and to give the clubs one last change to amend bye dates and other information. Once approved, each division is broken down into brackets based on number of teams in each age group. The lists are then entered into a software program which generates the schedule.
How are the brackets determined?
Once the initial entry lists are generated and approved, the board announces the date, time and place for a bracketing meeting. All interested clubs are invited and encouraged to attend. Given the desire to have 8 game schedules, brackets sizes are formed with favor towards 5 and 9 team groups- this allows for the most balanced form of league play. The total number of teams entered in a particular age group will determine the number of teams in each bracket (again trending towards 5 & 9). Based on requests and discussion at the bracketing meeting, the brackets are manipulated to achieve the best results for the LEAGUE. Clubs not represented at the bracketing meeting forfeit their chance to be involved in the discussion. Teams are not guaranteed to be placed in the bracket requested.
Can we change brackets between fall and spring?
Yes. The board is currently discussing the policy for promotion and relegation.
How many games does each of the teams play?
The CAYSL board has decided that league play will consist of eight (8) games per season.
Are teams guaranteed a certain number of home games?
While every effort is made to achieve a balanced schedule of four (4) home and four (4) away games we cannot guarantee that will be achieved. When one takes into account field availability, bye dates and other factors, sometimes the only way we can get all eight games into a schedule is to move a game away from a home field. Such decisions are not arbitrary but decided by the software, given the entered data. CAYSL does guarantee that all teams submitting unrestricted fields will have between 3 & 5 home games.
Are bye dates always honored?
Yes. For all teams that submit intents to play by the stated deadline, CAYSL guarantees the honoring of two (2) bye dates. A bye date may consist of a single day or an entire weekend. Teams may not substitute two single days in place of a weekend.
Can we change scheduled games?
Yes. The board has approved an experimental policy for the Fall ’05 season that would allow one game or a one weekend change. The rules and forms can be found under site contents on the home page.
Is there automatic rescheduling of games cancelled due to weather?
No. The home team of the cancelled game is responsible for rescheduling weather cancelled games. The complete procedures are found under the site contents on the home page.
